Digital Desk: Veteran Bollywood actress Asha Parekh has raised questions about the financial contributions made by the makers of the highly acclaimed movie "The Kashmir Files" to the welfare of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir. In a recent interview with News18, the esteemed actress voiced her concerns about the controversial film.
When asked about her views on the controversies surrounding films like "The Kashmir Files" and "The Kerala Story," Asha Parekh stated, "I haven't seen those films, so I can't comment on the controversies surrounding them." She also maintained that if people were watching such films, it was their choice to do so.
However, it was her remarks about the earnings and contributions from "The Kashmir Files" that sparked a contentious debate. She said, "Yes, people watched 'The Kashmir Files.' I will say something controversial here... the producer of the film made Rs 400 crore. From that, how much money did they give for the welfare of the Hindus living in Jammu and Kashmir? Those who don't have water or electricity, how much money did the producer give them?"

"After paying everybody else's share, the producers will have their share of profit. Suppose they earned Rs 200 crore out of the film's Rs 400 crore earnings; they could have donated Rs 50 crore to help the people," Parekh added.
"The Kashmir Files," directed by Vivek Agnihotri, tells the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley during the early stages of the armed insurgency in the early 1990s. The film was produced by Vivek Agnihotri, Pallavi Joshi, Tej Narayan Agarwal, and Abhishek Agarwal. Pallavi Joshi, who played a leading role in the film, received the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress. The movie, starring Mithun Chakraborty and Anupam Kher in the lead roles, also received the Nargis Dutt Award for Best Feature Film on National Integration.
Asha Parekh's comments have added a new layer to the ongoing debate around "The Kashmir Files," raising questions about the social responsibility of film producers, especially when dealing with sensitive subjects like historical events and their impact on communities.
