"Romance is timeless": Nawazuddin Siddiqui Justifies Kissing Avneet Kaur in 'Tiku Weds Sheru'

Digital Desk: Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui is one of the most prominent actors in the country, often receiving widespread recognition for his performances in an array of genres. However, the actor's recent film, Tiku Weds Sheru, has received criticism, particularly for the love scenes involving the actor, 49, and his co-star, Avneet Kaur, 21. Once the trailer was released earlier this month, a kissing scene between the two actors sparked a slew of angry replies from social media users who criticized the actor for consenting to romance someone half his age. However, the actor has defended the scene and the film, stating that "romance is ageless."

In a conversation with a news agency, Nawazuddin Siddiqui said, "Romance is timeless. The issue is that the young men have lost their sense of romance. We come from a time when romance was different. We'd be in 'ishq' for years if we fell in love."  "Today, Shah Rukh Khan continues to play romantic roles because the young generation is 'nalli' (useless). They don't understand romance.  Everything nowadays happens on WhatsApp, whether it's love or a breakup. There is a reason for this. Romance can be done by people who have lived in it. "Who else will do it?"

Kangana Ranaut, the film's producer, explained the casting decision by saying that the film was originally intended to be filmed with her and the late Irrfan Khan and was titled Divine Lovers. The Indian Express cited her as saying at the trailer launch event, "We had invited the media and it was a big launch (event). The movie at that time was titled Divine Lovers. Unfortunately, my director got sick soon after, and for the following two to three years we tried to make it, but it never caught on."

Tiku Weds Sheru will be released on Prime Video on June 23, 2023.  Avneet Kaur, who has worked in various television shows, will be making her Bollywood debut with this film.
