Digital Desk: Ahead of the Punjab election, Bollywood actress Mahie Gill and actor Hobby Dhaliwal joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday (February 7).
The duo joined the party in the presence of Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister Gajendra Shekhawat in Chandigarh. Moreover, Dushyant Gautam, the BJP’s national general secretary, was also present at the event.
Mahie Gill, who plays a role in Dev D, is an award-winning actress, whereas Dhaliwal is known for playing the role of villains in Punjabi films.
Gill stated that she wanted to assist the people of Punjab, particularly females, and that is why she had joined the BJP since it was the only party capable of doing so. “I’d like to do something to help girls. I want to raise female-related issues in the center. Now I have a platform to do so.” she said.
During the farmer’s protest, Dhaliwal stood against the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. However, now he said that he decided to join the party after hearing the PM’s vision for Punjab.
“PM Modi’s vision for Punjab forces me to join the party. This is the primary cause for the change of my heart.” claimed the actor, who has appeared in Punjabi films such Thana Sadar, Jinde Meriye Dilaawar, Angrej, Punjabian Da King Balraj Singh, and Saab Bahadar.
Apart from Dev D, Mahie Gill has appeared in Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster, Durgamati, Pann Singh Tomar, Dabangg, and Gulaal.
The Punjab election is scheduled to be held on February 14, in a single phase for 117 constituencies. The results of the election will be announced on March 10.
