BTS announce ‘hiatus’ to focus on solo careers
"BTS will continue to be active in various different formats, including working on solo projects despite the hiatus," a spokesperson for the group told Billboard.

Digital Desk: K-pop trio BTS officially announced their hiatus as a group during their FESTA meal, which was broadcast on YouTube. On Tuesday, BTS shocked the world by announcing that they will now embark on the second chapter of their journey, focusing more on independent projects as they discover themselves as artists.

Bangtan, who was visibly moved, also stated that they are taking this time apart in order to return stronger. "BTS is not disbanding," rapper Suga stated.

RM, Jin, SUGA, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook discussed the matter 20 minutes into their meal. As Suga stated, "We're taking a break right now." Should we discuss why we aren't participating in the FESTA or creating content? " When asked about the members' next steps, RM stated that they are "lost as a group." "I began music and became BTS because I had a message for the world," he explained. However, as the pandemic spread and things began to change, RM realised, "There has been a significant change in the group."

"We must admit that we have evolved. Until 'On' and 'Dynamite,' I felt like BTS was within my grasp, but after 'Butter' and 'Permission to Dance,' I had no idea what kind of group we were." He stated that they do not want to succumb to the K-pop culture that does not allow artists to evolve as a group or as individuals.

Later, each member expressed their eagerness to resume their duties as members of BTS following a hiatus. "When the moment is perfect, we want to return and continue doing what we love," the members stated. This has been a long time coming, according to Jungkook, and now is the appropriate time to explore their distinct abilities. The members also asked for ARMY's understanding and wished for their blessing.

"BTS will continue to be active in various different formats, including working on solo projects despite the hiatus," a spokesperson for the group told Billboard.

BTS took a month-long hiatus in 2019. They also took an "extended period of rest" at the end of 2021. Notably, this will be its third hiatus since its debut in 2013.
