Digital Desk: You must have heard that a healthy diet is a key to good health, but did you know many such food items, which we consume almost daily, can cause cancer? According to scientists, about 70% of cancer cases can be prevented solely through food. The remaining 30% is based on genetics and the environment.

5 cancer-causing foods that you should stop eating

    1. Canned pickles: Many different types of preservatives, such as nitrates, salt, and artificial colours, are used in the commercial production of pickles. The risk of stomach and colon cancer grows as a result of their excessive intake.

    2. Alcohol: The liver and kidneys have to do extra work due to the abundance of alcohol in the body. Many research suggests that excessive alcohol consumption increases the risk of mouth, esophageal, liver, colon, and rectum cancer. The question now is, how much is too much? According to research, ladies should have one drink per day and males should drink two drinks per day to be in the safe zone.

    3. Non-Organic Fruits: Even after cleaning fruits that have spent a significant amount of time in cold storage, a layer of chemicals still clings to them. Cancer develops as a result of this. Stored fruits should be destroyed after a certain time.

    4. Maida- While bran flour is helpful, maida is harmful to one's health. Many carcinogenic substances are emitted throughout the flour-making process. Apart from that, white flour is passed through chlorine gas to give it a white colour. It is extremely hazardous and causes cancer. Flour is much more harmful for diabetics because it raises blood sugar levels.

    5. Potato Chips- They are high in salt and saturated fat, both of which are harmful to one's health. Apart from this, chips contain an element called acrylamide, which in itself is considered a carcinogenic chemical. This chemical can be found in any food cooked over a high flame including chips. Acrylamide is also included in cigarettes, so we can understand how harmful eating chips might be.
