Digital Desk: After a gap of 130 days, India recorded 18,000 new coronavirus infections in a single day, bringing the total number of covid-19 cases to 4,34,52,164, as per the data from the Union Health Ministry published on Thursday. After 122 days, active covid-19 cases again surpassed the country's one lakh mark.
As per data updated at 8 am, a total of 18,819 new covid cases were reported in 24 hours, and the death toll increased to 5,25,116 with 39 additional fatalities. The ministry reported that the number of active cases climbed to 1,04,555, or 0.24 percent of the total cases and that the national covid-19 recovery rate was 98.55 percent.
In the last 24 hours, there has been an increase of 4,953 cases in the covid-19 active caseload. According to the ministry, the weekly positivity rate was 3.72 percent and the daily positivity rate was 4.16 percent.
A record 4,28,22,493 people had recovered from the illness, while the fatality rate was 1.21 percent. As per the ministry reports so far, 197.61 crore doses of the covid vaccine have been administered throughout the nation as part of the covid-19 vaccination campaign.
On August 7, 2020, India's covid-19 tally had surpassed 20 lakh, on August 23, it reached 30 lakh, on September 5 it reached 40 lakh, and on September 16 it reached 50 lakh. It exceeded the 60 lakh threshold on September 28, 70 lakh on October 11, 80 lakh on October 29, 90 lakh on November 20, and 1 crore on December 19.
