Digital Desk: According to media sources, a 41-year-old Indian-origin man was detained in the United States on accusations of attempted murder and child abuse after purposefully driving his Tesla down a cliff with his wife and two children inside.

Dharmesh A Patel of Pasadena, California, will be taken to San Mateo County Jail after being released from the hospital, according to a statement from the highway patrol.

Dharmesh Patel, his wife, and their children were rescued on Monday at Devil's Slide in San Mateo County, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Firefighters rappelled down the rock to save the two youngsters, a four-year-old girl and a nine-year-old boy. According to NBC News, an American broadcast television network, a helicopter crew rescued the two adults from the vehicle.

The rescue was regarded as "almost miraculous" by The New York Times.

According to the highway patrol, the Tesla was 250 to 300 feet below ground.

"Based on the evidence gathered, detectives developed probable cause to think this occurrence was an intentional act," the statement added.

As per Brian Pottenger, operations commander for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, witnesses called 911 following the crash.

He stated that surviving such a steep fall was "very, very rare," and that the children's car seats may have saved their lives.

"We were actually taken aback when we discovered survivors in the truck. So that was an encouraging sign for us "Pottenger stated.

Mr Pottenger stated that the youngsters had minor injuries.

According to Officer Andrew Barclay of the Golden Gate Division of the California Highway Patrol, authorities intend to prosecute Mr Patel with three charges of attempted murder and two counts of child abuse.
