The earthquake struck 14 kilometres south-west of Khoy, Iran, at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS). Khoy is the county seat of Khoy County in Iran's West Azerbaijan Province.
According to ANI, an earthquake of magnitude 5.9 was felt in the city of Khoy, West Azarbaijan Province, in northwest Iran.
The earthquakes were felt in a number of places, including Tabriz, Azerbaijan's neighbouring East Azerbaijan's provincial capital.
