Digital Desk: Hirsh Vardhan Singh, an Indian-American engineer, unveiled his candidature for President of the United States, becoming the third person of Indian origin to do so, following Nikki Haley and Vivek Ramaswamy.

Mr Singh, 38, claimed in a video message uploaded on Twitter that he is a "lifelong Republican" and "America First" conservative who sought to revive the New Jersey Republican Party's right flank.

"Strong leadership is required to reverse the changes that have occurred in recent years and restore American values." That is why I have decided to seek the Republican Party's candidature for the post of President of the United States in the 2024 election," Hirsh Vardhan Singh said in a three-minute video on Friday.

As Reported in The Hill newspaper, he officially submitted his candidature with the Federal Election Commission on Thursday.

Prior to Mr Singh, former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley, 51, and rich entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, 37, launched their Republican Party candidature for the highest office in the United States earlier this year.

They will compete against former US President Donald Trump, who is winning the Republican Party's candidature for 2024 despite legal obstacles.

Republicans will have their national convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from July 15 to 18, 2024, to formally pick their party's next presidential contender.
