In the 'In Memoriam' Section, Oscars 2022 Doesn't Pay Tribute To Lata Mangeshkar & Dilip Kumar

However, the 'In Memoriam' section neglected to pay tribute to the work and memories of two late renowned Bollywood superstars, Dilip Kumar and vocalist Lata Mangeshkar.

Digital Desk: The 94th Academy Awards paid tribute to worldwide film industry talents and filmmakers who died last year. Late icons Sidney Poitier, Betty White, and Ivan Reitman were honored with heartfelt tributes at the Oscars on Sunday night, prior to the start of the customary 'In Memoriam' section.

However, the 'In Memoriam' section neglected to pay tribute to the work and memories of two late renowned Bollywood superstars, Dilip Kumar and vocalist Lata Mangeshkar.

Dilip Kumar left for his heavenly abode on July 7, 2021, and Lata Mangeshkar passed away on February 6, 2022. Both individuals were recently honoured with moving obituaries at the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) earlier this month.

And the exclusion of two legends of Indian film from the 2022 Oscars event was notable, especially after the British Academy Film and Television Awards (BAFTA) honoured Mangeshkar and Kumar earlier this month.

On social media, many followers have voiced their outrage and disappointment.

One Twitter user claimed that Lata gave vocals to more songs than “shown in all Oscars combined, tet, the #Oscars2022 #Inmemoriam did not see it fit to honor her even with a mention. Sometimes, I think, colonialism still lives on…”

Another user shared: "#LataMangeshkar of Indian Cinema #Bollwoodfame - Nightingale of India - not even mentioned among memorium of the movie folks who passed away in the last year #WTF1 #Oscars2022 #Oscar #Oscars #AcademyAward."

Earlier, the Oscars had featured late actors- Irrfan Khan, Sushant Singh Rajput and Rishi Kapoor in its In Memoriam section in the previous years.
