MoC Refute claims made by Mamata Banerjee

Digital Desk: Earlier in the morning today, the news made rounds on social media that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) allegedly froze the bank accounts of the Missionaries of Charity (MoC).

The source of the news is believed to be the Twitter handle of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Earlier in the day, expressing shock, West Bengal Chief Minister (CM) Mamata Banerjee had tweeted that the Union government has frozen all bank accounts of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India.

The Trinamool Congress supremo and the CM of West Bengal twitted, “Shocked to hear that on Christmas, Union Ministry FROZE ALL BANK ACCOUNTS of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity in India!

Here, begins the controversy when the Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity on Monday, 27 December invalidated the reports of their bank accounts having been frozen by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Also, they refused the claim made by Trinamool Supremo of their Foreign Contribution Regulation Act(FCRA) registration having been suspended.

In a press release, the MoC clearly refuted all the claims made by Mamata Banerjee, CM (WB)

    The MoC also tweeted,

“We appreciate the concern of our well-wishers… We would like to clarify that the FCRA registration of the Missionaries of Charity has been neither suspended nor canceled. Further, there is no freeze ordered by the Ministry of Home Affairs on any of our bank accounts.”

In a press note, it said, “MHA did not freeze any accounts of the MoC.”

Instead, the MHA mentioned in its report that while considering the MoC’s renewal application “some adverse inputs were noticed”.

“In consideration of these inputs on the record, the renewal application of the MoC was not approved.” According to the MHA. Adding to the MHA released a shocker in the latter part of the day by stating a bank statement of the Moc that,” the MHA did not freeze any accounts of the MoC and that “State Bank of India has informed that MoC itself sent a request to SBI to freeze its accounts
