Tokyo: At least two people dead and 20 missing in a resort town southwest of Tokyo due to a gush of mud that swept away homes and cars as per the official report.
According to the report, around 80 homes were buried in Atami, the firefighters, military troops and three coast guard ships were engaged to rescue the trapped people. Moreover, 10 people were rescued till now.
Shizuoka prefecture official in charge of disaster prevention Tatsushi Ueda said, “The two people confirmed the death, both women, had been swept to the sea and were found by the coast guard.”
Ueda added that of the 10 who were rescued, one suffered minor injuries. In Atami, 121 people had been evacuated.
Moreover, Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has set up a task force for the rescue effort.
