Russia-Ukraine war Updates: Ukraine’s youngest member of Parliament has taken up an AK-47 rifle to save his country against the Russian invasion.
Digital Desk: Sviatoslav Yurash was the youngest MP in Ukraine’s history when he was elected to the Ukrainian Parliament. Three years later, faced with Russia’s push against Ukraine, the 26-year-old MP has equipped himself with an AK-47 assault rifle to see what lies ahead. The youngest MP claimed that he is not a soldier but that learning things gets easier in a circumstance like this when one’s life is on the line.
While speaking to BBC Radio 4, Sviatoslav Yurash was asked what Ukrainians would do if Putin won the war. “That’s why I’m holding my AK47 in front of me,” the MP stated. Further, he said that inhabitants of Ukraine were already assembling at recruitment stations and that the government had previously proclaimed that anyone who wanted to take up arms would be assisted. Notably, on Friday, the Ukrainian government urged citizens to build their own petrol bombs at home to fight against Russia.
“We are Europe’s largest country, with a population of 40 million people, and we will not stand by and watch Russia do whatever it wants over its borders. We will fight with everything we have and with all the help we can get from the rest of the world, “Sviatoslav Yurash told BBC Radio.
“That is precisely the message to the rest of the world; we need your help and support. Russia is breaking every single international rule in existence, and we must win this battle not only for ourselves but also for the sake of international law,” he added.
Notably, Sviatoslav Yurash shared a photo of himself on Twitter, clutching his AK-47 with a grin on his face. The caption reads, “This will be a long night.”
