    Cyclone Sitrang takes 7 lives in Bangladesh, fire service opens monitoring cell
    Due to the bad weather caused by Cyclone Sitrang, thousands of people and cattle were evacuated from Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar coast and relocated to cyclone shelters on Monday.

    Digital Desk: As Cyclone Sitrang slammed portions of Bangladesh on Monday, at least seven people were killed, including three members of a family, in the fall of a brick wall and trees, according to media sources. 

    Following the casualties, the Fire Service and Civil Defence activated a monitoring cell. The accidents occurred in Dhaka, Nagalkot, Cumilla Daulatkhan, Charfesson in Bhola, and Lohagara in Narail as a violent storm slammed Bangladesh with torrential rainfall and damaging winds, as cited by bdnews24. 

    Thousands of people and animals were evacuated from Bangladesh's Cox's Bazar coast and transferred to cyclone shelters on Monday owing to the bad weather caused by Cyclone Sitrang, according to media sources.

    At least 28,155 people and 2,736 cattle have been evacuated from the Cox's Bazar coast and are being relocated to cyclone shelters as cyclone Sitrang approaches Bangladesh, according to the Dhaka Tribune. 

    "Nearby educational institutions have also been kept ready to use as shelters if required," said Mamunur Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of Cox's Bazar. "People are being evacuated to shelters to protect lives and property," he added.

    For assistance, the district administration has directed citizens to call the Union Parishad Chairman, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer, or the control room of the district commissioner's office. 

    Deputy Commissioner Rashid asked everyone to stay alert and help everyone escape to safety to lessen the chance of destruction. On Sunday, the Cox's Bazar district administration made many measures to deal with Cyclone Sitrang. 

    In the event of an emergency, at least 104 medical teams are on standby. According to the Dhaka Tribune, 323 tonnes of rice, more than Tk 8 lakh, 1,198 packages of dry food, 350 cartons of dry cakes, and 400 cartons of digestive biscuits have been kept for the people in case they are affected by the cyclone.

    According to the India Meteorological Department, the cyclonic storm "Sitrang," which is pronounced "Si-Trang," was moving 28 kmph north-northeast during the previous six hours on Monday evening over the northwest and adjacent to the central Bay of Bengal. 

    The statement also stated that "the cyclone is extremely likely to continue moving north-northeastwards" and that "the cyclone is projected to strike Bangladesh's coast between Tinkona Island and Sandwip close to Barisal in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday."
