Digital Desk: Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is now said to be the father of nine children after a news report stated that he and Shivon Zilis, a senior executive at Musk's brain-chip business Neuralink, became parents to twins in November 2021. Elon and Zilis reportedly petitioned to have the twins' names changed in April to "have their father's last name" and include a portion of their mother's last name in their middle name. Notably, the information about the twins was first spread through this petition. According to the article, the petition was authorized in May. 

As per the report, the judge approved an "Order Changing the Names of Multiple Children" on May 11 following the filing of Musk and Zilis' name-change petition on April 25 of this year. This information was based on a court docket summary on the Westlaw legal research service.

Who is Shivon Zilis?

Elon Musk co-founded and served as chairman of Neuralink, where Shivon Zilis serves as director of operations and special projects. She joined the company in May 2017, the same month she started working at Tesla as a project director for artificial intelligence, where she remained until 2019. According to her LinkedIn profile, she is also a board member at the Musk-cofounded artificial intelligence research company OpenAI. Zilis has lately been named as one of the candidates Musk may choose to lead Twitter Inc. following his $44 billion takeover agreement, according to sources. Zilis, raised in Canada, attended Yale to study economics and philosophy before working for IBM and then Bloomberg Beta. She has been included in both LinkedIn's 35 Under 35 and Forbes' 30 Under 30 lists.

With the addition of the twins, Elon Musk has a total of nine children. Musk has two kids with Canadian artist Grimes and five others with his ex-wife, Canadian writer Justine Wilson. In December, Musk and Grime, who were "semi-separated," had their second child through surrogacy.

According to reports, Elon Musk and Grimes' second surrogate child was born a few weeks before the twins. The CEO of Tesla has always been outspoken about his worries about a general population reduction.

Elon Musk's 18-year-old daughter has requested a name change before the court to officially distance herself from her father. After turning 18, she also changed her gender identification from male to female.
