    Imran Khan nominates former CJP Gulzar Ahmed as caretaker Prime Minister


    Notably, the decision comes a day after the deputy speaker of the National Assembly rejected a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan.


    Digital Desk: Following a political crisis, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan nominated former Chief Justice Gulzar Ahmed as Pakistan's caretaker Prime Minister on Monday, Fawad Chaudhry, Pakistan's Minister of Information and Broadcasting, made the announcement.


    According to the Dawn newspaper, minister Fawad Chaudhry stated that Imran Khan made this decision after receiving PTI's core committee approval.


    Gulzar Ahmed's nomination follows a letter sent earlier today by President Dr Arif Alvi to Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition in the outgoing National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif requesting names of suitable candidates for appointment as caretaker premier under Article 224-A (1) of the Constitution, according to a Pakistani newspaper. 


    Notably, the decision comes a day after the deputy speaker of the National Assembly rejected a no-confidence motion against Imran Khan. Moreover, President Arif Alvi dissolves the National Assembly on Khan's advice.


    Gulzar Ahmed, who was sworn in as Pakistan's 27th Chief Justice on December 21, 2019, was born in Karachi on February 2, 1957. According to the Dawn newspaper, Gulzar Ahmed serves as the Chief Justice of Pakistan till February 2022.
