India Rejects China's "Invented Names" For Arunachal Pradesh, marked "Senseless":

Digital Desk: The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has firmly rebuked China's latest attempt to rename several places in India’s integral part, Arunachal Pradesh. In a statement published on April 2, the MEA criticised China's actions, noting, “China has persisted with its senseless attempts to rename places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh."

The statement was issued by the MEA in reply to media queries in the wake of China releasing a fourth list of 30 new names of various places in Arunachal Pradesh amid Beijing's stepped-up claims in recent weeks to re-highlight its illegal claim over the Indian state.

Replying to China's motion, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar stated, “If I change the name of your house, will it become mine? Arunachal Pradesh was an Indian state, is an Indian state, and will remain so in the future. Nothing will be gained by changing names."

China announced a fourth list of thirty new names for different locations in Arunachal Pradesh on Monday, even though India has previously strongly objected to similar renaming attempts. The state-run Global Times stated that the implementation measures, which are scheduled to go into effect on May 1, specified in Article 13 that "place names in foreign languages that may harm China's territorial claims and sovereignty rights shall not be directly quoted or translated without authorization."
