This country becomes first to provide free access to Period Products: Check here
In November 2020, the Period Products Bill, which introduced free access to sanitary products in public buildings as a constitutional right, was approved by the Scottish Parliament with a unanimous majority.

Digital Desk: Scotland will become the first country in the world to ensure universal access to free-period products following the passing of landmark legislation in 2020. The law will be in effect from Monday.

According to a statement released by the Scottish government on Sunday, councils and educational institutions will be legally required to supply free period products to anyone who needs them.

According to Shona Robison, Secretary of Social Justice, "Access to free period products is vital to equality and dignity, and removes the financial barriers to getting them."

She added, "We are honoured to be the first national government in the world to act in this manner."

In November 2020, the Period Products Bill, which introduced free access to sanitary products in public buildings as a constitutional right, was approved by the Scottish Parliament with a unanimous majority.

Sanitary products were already free to students and teachers, but the measure gave ministers the responsibility of making sure that everyone had access to them.

Additionally, a variety of period products must be made freely available in bathrooms at all schools, colleges, and universities.

At the time, Nicola Sturgeon, the first minister of Scotland, welcomed the choice.

She wrote on Twitter, "Proud to vote for this groundbreaking legislation, making Scotland the first country in the world to provide free period products for all who need them,"

"An important policy for women and girls."
