Shillong: Meghalaya government is all set to explore the usage of pineapples for making vegan leather. James Sangma, Cabinet Minister for Forest & Environment and Power, Meghalaya, stated that the government is currently working on producing vegan leather out of pineapples.
Sangma further added that the state plans to establish a climate change museum to stimulate individuals concerning the problem and create awareness.
Minister Sangma further added that the state is additionally trying to study the characteristics of the pineapple to produce vegan leather out of the fruit.

On Tuesday, Sangma virtually addressed the 'TiE Sustainability Summit 2021', organized by TiE Hyderabad. In his address, the minister claimed that the Meghalaya government is presently building a consensus to include climate change as one of the subjects in the school curriculum.
"Meghalaya is one of the major pineapple producing states in India. It contributes 8 percent of the total pineapple produced in India. Pineapple is the most important fruit crop of the state. We are working on Pineapple for Vegan leather. We are also building a consensus to introduce climate change as a subject in the school curriculum to sensitize children," stated James Sangma, Meghalaya Forest & Environment and Power Minister.
Minister Sangma stated that nearly 76% of Meghalaya's land is covered under forests. He also claimed that the state is classified as one of the top five states for BioDiversity, followed by a unique forest economy.
"A climate change museum is also around the corner. We hope to inspire action on the climate crisis through this museum. Climate change is a defining challenge of our times. We must rise to fight it together," he added.
"We want to be a silicon valley for green-based products," Sangma added addressing the public.
