The Bhadra season is forbidden for performing any auspicious task according to Hindu tradition.
Digital Desk: Soon, the holy festival of Raksha Bandhan will be celebrated. Raksha Bandh an is celebrated every year on the full moon day of the Shukla Paksha (waxing phase) of the Shravan month, according to the Hindu calendar. The question of whether to observe Raksha Bandhan on August 30 or August 31 is unclear this year. The question of whether to celebrate Raksha Bandhan on August 30 or August 31 has come up among sisters, who tie a protecting thread (Rakhi) around their brothers' wrists on that day. This confusion is caused by the fact that Bhadra will be present on August 30th, which also happens to be the date of the Shravan month's full moon (Purnima). The Rakhi celebration is been extended to the 30th and 31st of August for an additional two days. It is deemed unlucky to carry out any kind of fortunate deeds during the Bhadra month, in accordance with Hindu belief.
Raksha Bandhan is therefore celebrated on either the 30th or 31st of August, depending on whether Bhadra is present. The Bhadra season is forbidden for performing any auspicious task according to Hindu tradition. As a result, it is believed that Raksha Bandhan is most auspicious when it is observed on the Shravan Purnima day, outside of the Bhadra month, and in the afternoon.
The shadow of Bhadra will be around all day on Raksha Bandhan. The Panchang states that the Shravan Shukla Purnima date will begin at 10:59 AM on August 30 and last until 07:05 AM on August 31, the following day. The Bhadra period will start on August 30 and remain until 9:01 PM on the same day, along with the start of the full moon date. Rakhi cannot be tied on August 30 due to Bhadra's presence at that moment. Only when the Bhadra month has passed can rakhi be tied. Some astrology authorities disagree that tying a rakhi at night is fortunate.
