Digital Desk: Skincare routines are just as crucial as self-care. Self-grooming was considered a thing of women's domain and was not given much attention earlier. Nonetheless, as trends and times change, people's knowledge of skincare, selecting the best products, and leading a healthy lifestyle to support radiant, moisturized, and healthy skin is rising. Men of all ages need to follow a grooming regimen, just like women do. Men's skin can be up to 25% thicker than women's, and shaving can cause more sensitivity and irritation, according to Dr. Leena Aggarwal, a dermatologist at Vibes Healthcare Ltd. The good news is that men are starting to realize how important skincare and self-care are, and they are spending more money and effort to look young and healthy. In an interview with IANS Life, Dr. Aggarwal offered age-defying skincare tips that can help any guy feel and look his best every day.

    6-Step Skincare Routine For Men

    1. The mandatory CTM procedure: Starting with a basic routine of cleansing, toning, and moisturizing (CTM) your skin is essential. It is essential to cleanse the skin twice a day to rid the skin's surface of dirt, debris, pollutants, and oil discharges. Frequent washing also reduces skin blemishes and congested pores. By using a toner, you can keep your skin's pH stable and get rid of any dust or debris that has stuck to your pores. Even after shaving, using a toner is safe. After washing and toning, the skin typically gets parched. The best skin type is one that is soft and supple, therefore use a moisturizer. It is best to choose products that are mild but effective and free of harmful substances. Toners, creams, and other skincare products should contain antioxidants like vitamin C and resveratrol as well as Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) like lactic and glycolic acids.

    2. Protect your skin from the sun: The primary cause of accelerated aging is the sun. Uneven pigmentation, sun spots, decreased skin suppleness, skin deterioration, and other issues are brought on by UV radiation. Sun protection is necessary whether you're running errands or spending the day at the beach. Regular application of sunscreen, ideally with an SPF of 30 or higher, will protect the skin from the damaging effects of UV, UVA, UVB, and infrared radiation. You can also shield your skin by wearing lightweight, long-sleeved shirts, slacks, caps, and UV-blocking eyewear.

    3. Using the correct products: Look for facial washes, masks, or serums that are high in these components. It is commonly acknowledged that retinol exhibits the strongest empirical support for its anti-aging properties. Salicylic acid is a beta-hydroxy acid (BHA) that is best recognized for treating acne, but it also has significant exfoliating properties that make it a suitable choice for reducing indications of aging. It can also increase collagen production. Because salicylic acid is oil-soluble, it can penetrate your oily pores more deeply than other chemical exfoliants. Salicylic acid may be an essential component for you if you have particularly oily or acne-prone skin. Another beneficial component for minimizing age indicators like hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and wrinkles is glycolic acid.

    4. A diet high in nutrients: According to several studies, consuming a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables may help prevent damage that causes skin to age prematurely. Consuming a diet high in antioxidants, fiber, healthy fats, vitamins C, A, B3, E, K, and selenium can help to maintain firm, youthful skin and encourage the creation of collagen. Red bell peppers, papaya, avocado, berries, broccoli, spinach, sweet potatoes, almonds, salmon, and yoghurt are a few foods to add. It's also critical to maintain proper hydration levels in your body by drinking lots of water.

    5. Limit your intake of alcohol and tobacco: Alcohol is a diuretic, which dehydrates the skin and encourages the production of free radicals. The harm that smoking's toxins cause to your skin includes wrinkles, collagen degradation, sagging skin, skin discoloration, and more. Smoking not only accelerates the aging process of the skin but also causes the skin to contract, appearing dry, lifeless, and wrinkly. Your skin will seem healthy and young if you stop smoking and limit your alcohol use.

    6. Exercise and sound sleep: Exercise can help your skin look better and feel better overall by boosting blood flow, which flushes out free radicals and cellular waste, and delivering oxygen to the cells. It can also improve your skin's appearance. An equal amount of sleep—roughly 8 to 9 hours—makes a man look younger, smoother, and less prone to breakouts. Your body may heal and rejuvenate as you sleep, which has numerous positive effects on both your physical appearance and overall health.
