It's a day to recognize the critical role elephants play in ecosystem maintenance and to support organizations and projects that aim to protect them. From the date to history, here is everything you need to know about this day.

When is World Elephant Day 2023?

World Elephant Day will be observed globally on Saturday, August 12.

    History of World Elephant Day

World Elephant Day was co-founded on August 12, 2012, by Canadian Patricia Sims and the Elephant Reintroduction Foundation of Thailand, an initiative of HM Queen Sirikit of Thailand. Patricia Sims has continued to oversee World Elephant Day ever since. Since its inception, it has collaborated with 100 elephant conservation organizations worldwide, reaching millions of people worldwide. The fact that World Elephant Day has attracted millions of participants worldwide indicates how much people care about elephants and are willing to go to any length to protect them.

    Significance of World Elephant Day

World Elephant Day is a platform for organizations and individuals to come together and speak out about elephant-related issues. Its "neutral" approach vision enables and supports all organizations and people in organizing campaigns under the World Elephant Day banner, allowing everyone to work together to address this vital global issue that requires cooperation across country boundaries and political divisions. This powerful, collective global voice provides citizens, decision-makers, legislators, and governments with the opportunity to develop and support conservation solutions that will make the world a safer place for elephants, animals, and habitats for future generations to enjoy.
