Evening food Cravings? Have this tasty snack with various health benefits

Substitute your junk food with this healthy snack with multiple benefits.

Digital Desk: It is true that we all have cravings, especially in the evenings, and cravings

Involve a desire to have something tasty rather than healthy. As a result, most people end up eating junk or unhealthy foods.

But what if you choose a tasty, healthy substitute to junk food?

Dietician and nutritionist Lovneet Batra shared on Instagram the health advantages of "chickpeas," which are consumed as chana chaat and contain vital minerals. Her caption read, Chana chaat is probably one of the best and healthy ways to enjoy a plateful of chana. The best part is this chaat is quite easy to rustle up. All you need is common and healthy foods like cucumber, onion and tomatoes.”

    Keeps you healthy

"Chickpeas are a fantastic source of various minerals, such as magnesium and potassium, which may improve heart health by helping prevent high blood pressure — a significant risk factor for heart disease," the nutritionist stated.

She also said that studies have shown the soluble fibre in chickpeas can lower LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, two substances that make up body fat and may increase the risk of heart attack.

    Controls hormonal imbalance

Saponins and phytonutrients (plant hormones) are abundant in chickpeas (anti-oxidants). "Phytonutrients are natural compounds produced by plants," claims Healthline.

The specialist explained that the bean maintains blood levels of the oestrogen hormone, which lowers your risk of breast cancer and guards against osteoporosis. Additionally, chickpeas help in easing women's post-menopausal symptoms and mood swings during menstruation.

    Mental health

In addition to the aforementioned, choline, which contributes to a healthy mind and increased brain health, is another important nutrient found in chickpeas. "One of the advantages of eating chickpeas is that they help the body produce neurotransmitters that excite nerve cells. Additionally, it gives your body magnesium, a nutrient necessary for healthy neuron function, she added.
