Digital Desk: A ten-year-old girl in Punjab's Patiala died due to suspected food poisoning after she ate her birthday cake, her family alleged. According to the family, the girl Manvi and her sister fell ill on the night after they celebrated her birthday and ate the cake which was ordered online.
In a widely circulated social media video, hours before she passed away, the victim, Manvi, was shown cutting the cake and having fun with her family.
Around 7:00 p.m. on March 24, she cut the cake. Her grandfather Harban Lal said that by 10:00 pm that same night, the whole family fell sick, and the sisters started vomiting soon after.
He added that Manvi had complained of extreme thirst and dry mouth and asked for water. He said that after that, she fell asleep.
Her condition declined, and the next morning the family hurried her to the hospital. Harban Lal stated that once she was given oxygen, an electrocardiogram, or ECG, which records the electrical activity of the heart, was carried out. But they couldn't save her. He added that shortly after, she was declared dead.
According to the family, the chocolate cake they purchased from "Cake Kanha" included some kind of poisonous substance.
An FIR has been filed against the bakery owner. "The postmortem of the body has been done. A sample from the cake has also been sent for testing. We are awaiting the reports," they said.
