Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a deadline for all departments to establish mobile towers in every village by March 2024. The announcement was made during a meeting of the PM-Pragati, where concerns over delays in the process were raised.

The Prime Minister addressed the challenges faced in constructing mobile towers, comparing them to the often controversial construction of dams. He emphasized that while the public might object to dam construction, they would actively support the installation of telecom towers to improve communication links.

During the meeting, officials cited issues like the non-availability of land and remote locations as reasons for the delays. However, Prime Minister Modi was firm in his decision and urged that the work should be completed by the end of the financial year, highlighting the importance of achieving saturation in mobile phone coverage.

Part of the government's efforts to facilitate this goal is the creation of the "GatiShakti Sanchar" website, which aims to centralize Right of Way (ROW) approvals from different agencies, streamlining the process of tower installation.

The PM also used the meeting to discuss dam and irrigation-related projects in Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Jharkhand. He stressed the need for coordination between the water resources ministry and states to ensure that canals are constructed concurrently with these projects.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi instructed stakeholders working on projects in densely populated urban areas to appoint nodal officers and form teams to enhance coordination. He further suggested organizing visits to showcase successful rehabilitation and reconstruction work in irrigation projects as a means of motivating all stakeholders.

With this ambitious deadline and focused efforts, India is moving closer to achieving universal mobile coverage, improving communication and connectivity across the country.
