Digital Desk: The BJP candidate Narendran, who ran from Erode's ward 11 of Bhavanisagar, received only one vote. When the votes were counted, Narendran discovered that no one had voted for him, including his friends, family, and party employees.
BJP Candidate Narendra was beaten by a DMK candidate who received 84 votes out of the total 162 cast.
On February 19, approximately 12,500 wards in Tamil Nadu were elected in 21 corporations, 138 municipalities, and 489 town panchayaths.
According to the most recent numbers, the DMK and its allies lead all 21 companies, with AIADMK a distant second.
The ruling DMK dominated the Tamil Nadu urban local body elections, the results of which were announced on Tuesday, February 22. The party also broke into the western belt, an AIADMK bastion, by winning the municipal corporations of Coimbatore, Salem, and Tiruppur, as well as a huge triumph in the seven Coimbatore municipalities.
According to official figures, the DMK won 67.67 percent of ward councillor seats in 21 companies, gaining 929 out of 1,374 positions. The DMK also won 2,360 out of 3,843 wards from 138 municipalities (61.41 percent), as well as 4,388 (57.58 percent) of 7,621 seats in 490 town panchayats.
The governing party claimed a huge triumph in Coimbatore after capturing 68 of the Corporation's 100 seats. The AIADMK finished a distant second, winning only three wards. The BJP won none of the wards. The DMK also dominated municipal elections in Coimbatore, gaining 159 of 198 wards to the AIADMK's 22. In the Coimbatore district town panchayats, the party won 386 out of 513 wards, compared to the AIADMK's 71.
Meanwhile, in Coimbatore, the winning candidates are issued declaration certificates with the caveat that "the declaration of result is subject to the outcome" of the court decision. While hearing a writ case brought by the Marumalarchi Makkal Iyakkam, the Madras High Court ordered on Monday, February 21, that the outcome of the Coimbatore Corporation election be subject to further decisions from the court. It was claimed that cash was distributed to voters by all parties. They also asked to annul the election and hold an investigation into the matter.
