    BJP candidate against Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad has 242 cases against him

    Digital desk: BJP state president K Surendran, who is also the NDA candidate facing Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency has 242 criminal cases against him. 

    Surendran recently published the details of his cases in the party mouthpiece, covering three full pages, in compliance with the law. Similar to this, K S Radhakrishnan, the candidate of the saffron party for the Ernakulam constituency, has over 211 charges filed against him.

    George Kurian, the state general secretary of the BJP told PTI, "Most of the cases are related to the Sabarimala protests which were held in 2018. Most of the cases are in court. When party leaders call for a strike or a protest, the police register a case in connection with that."

    He declared that the specifics of the cases brought against the candidates must be made public. 

    According to B L Santhosh, the national general secretary of the BJP, "hard to be a nationalist in some parts of Bharath." He tweeted on Friday, detailing the cases against Surendran, Radhakrishnan, the party's Alappuzha candidate Shobha Surendran, and Vatakara candidate Praful Krishna.

    Later Santhosh posted on X, "It’s hard to be a nationalist in some parts of Bharath. It's everyday struggle. But it's worth the struggle. Form C7 of Sri @surendranbjp, WAYANAD candidate. One personâ€æHundreds of cases."

    Giving a breakdown of the cases filed against the BJP state head, Kurian stated that 237 of them had to do with the protests at Sabarimala, and the remaining five had to do with different agitations throughout Kerala. 

    In 2018, statewide protests against the Kerala government's decision to carry out the Supreme Court's ruling on women's entry to the hilltop Sabarimala shrine in Pathanamthitta district were organized by the BJP and its allied parties. Other party candidates' case details are yet to come out.

    On April 4, candidates can submit their nominations for the Lok Sabha elections. Although the deadline for withdrawing submissions is April 8, scrutiny will continue to take place on April 5. 

    It is currently 18 nominations that have been submitted to the Election Commission. Well-known individuals who have submitted their nominations are Kasaragod-based BJP candidate Ashwini M L and Kollam-based leftist candidate M Mukesh.
