Digital Desk: The Beating the Retreat ceremony on January 29 will feature a first-of-its-kind 1,000-drone spectacle to commemorate India's 75th anniversary of independence.
Botlab Dynamics, an IIT Delhi firm, designed the drones from the ground up. In the past, countries such as the United States, Russia, and China have staged large-scale drone shows.
A laser display atop New Delhi's North and South Blocks parapets will be another component to the celebration on January 29. The laser spectacle will commemorate India's 75th year of independence.
Beating the Retreat is a centuries-old military ritual that dates back to when men withdrew from the battle at sunset. Every year on January 29, it takes place in New Delhi's Vijay Chowk.
India's Republic Day celebrations will start on January 23 and last through January 30. The 125th birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose will be celebrated on January 23.
The Republic Day parade will be delayed by half an hour this year, starting at 10.30 a.m., to ensure visibility for planes taking part in the fly-past. A total of 75 planes will take part in the fly-past.
Considering Covid protocol, the number of visitors at the Republic Day parade has been reduced to 5,000-8,000. Last year, around 25,000 people had attended the parade.
The procession will feature tableaux from twelve states and union territories and nine ministries and departments. Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Meghalaya, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are among the states that have been chosen.
PM Narendra Modi will also award the Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Apada Prabandhan Puraskar to individuals and organisations for their services to disaster management at a special ceremony at India Gate.
