Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah reiterated the government's commitment to implement the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) and accused West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of misleading the public on the issue. Speaking at a meeting of the state BJP's social media and IT wing members at the National Library in Kolkata, Shah emphasized that CAA is the law of the land, and no one can hinder its implementation.

During the closed-door program, Shah expressed the party's determination to implement the CAA, which seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan. He confidently stated that the BJP aims to secure more than 35 out of the 42 Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal, reiterating the party's commitment to ending infiltration, cow smuggling, and providing citizenship to religiously persecuted individuals.

The Bengal BJP media cell shared key points from Shah's speech, along with video clips, on social media platforms. In one video clip, Shah asserted, "A BJP government will mean the end of infiltration, cow smuggling, and providing citizenship to religiously persecuted people through CAA."

Shah specifically targeted Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of attempting to mislead the people on whether CAA will be implemented in the country. "At times, she tries to mislead the people, the refugees, about whether CAA will be at all implemented in the country or not. I want to say this clearly that CAA is the law of the land, and no one can stop its implementation. This is the commitment of our party," Shah stated.

Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC) has consistently opposed the CAA since its passage in 2019. The CAA aims to provide Indian citizenship to persecuted minorities such as Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, and Christians from the mentioned countries who entered India on or before December 31, 2014. The political standoff between the BJP and TMC over the CAA issue is expected to intensify as West Bengal approaches the next assembly polls.
