CM Arvind Kejriwal likely to appear in court amid debate on trust vote in Delhi assembly today
The CM told the court that due to the assembly's ongoing budget session and the confidence motion discussion, he was unable to personally appear before the court today.

Digital Desk: The chief minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, appeared via video conference before Rouse Avenue court today to address the latest complaint brought against him in the excise policy case by the Enforcement Directorate. The CM told the court that due to the assembly's ongoing budget session and the confidence motion discussion, he was unable to personally appear before the court today. Arvind Kejriwal's in-person appearance before the court is set for March 16.

Arvind Kejriwal is scheduled to appear in court earlier today in relation to the summons issued by the Enforcement Directorate in the purported Excise fraud case. As a result of Delhi Chief Minister Kejriwal's repeated failure to show up for court dates, the ED has filed a city court complaint against him. Kejriwal, the leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), is scheduled to appear in court in Delhi to provide an explanation for his choice to disregard the ED summons.

The Chief Minister's motion of confidence is being adopted by the Delhi Assembly in a show of strength amidst claims that the BJP is trying to oust AAP MLAs by giving them Rs 25 crore apiece.

Yesterday, following CM Kejriwal's presentation of the motion of confidence in the Delhi Assembly, he announced that two AAP MLAs had contacted him with an offer of Rs 25 crore to join the BJP, claiming that the chief minister of Delhi will soon be imprisoned. Kejriwal said he'd brought the trust vote to the assembly to prove that no AAP MLA had defected.

It is scheduled for February 19 that Kejriwal takes action ahead of the ED's sixth summons. Voting for a vote of trust has been requested by the Arvind Kejriwal administration twice. The Aam Aadmi Party has 62 MLAs in the Assembly, compared to the BJP's eight.

The court summoned Kejriwal last week, emphasizing his obligation to follow the law. The Delhi chief minister has been charged by the ED with willfully evading summonses; the AAP argues that the summonses were not valid. The agency wants to imprison Kejriwal and use unfair tactics to bring down the Delhi government. The AAP leaders claimed that because they are losing to the Aam Aadmi Party in the country's capital, the BJP is employing a variety of methods to take over Delhi.

The Enforcement Directorate, which is conducting an inquiry into allegations that spirits companies influenced the excise policy for a 12% profit, has alleged money laundering connected to kickbacks. The BJP claims that AAP became a national party by funding its campaign in Gujarat with the money from the purported scandal.
