Digital Desk: An IED (improvised explosive device) blast orchestrated by Naxalites injured a jawan of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) deployed for election duty in the Sukma area of Chhattisgarh, stated police.

The incident occurred near Tondamarka's thick forests, a region notorious for Naxalite presence. To provide security during the elections, a joint team consisting of the CRPF and Commando Battalions for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 206th battalion was carrying out an area domination operation from Tondamarka camp towards Elmagunda village, according to a senior police officer quoted by PTI.

According to the report, Inspector Shrikant, a member of the CoBRA 206th battalion, accidentally triggered the IED planted by Naxalites, resulting in an explosion that caused injuries to him.

The region falls in the Konta assembly segment, which is one of the 20 constituencies holding voting on Tuesday in the first round of the two-phase elections for the assembly, which consists of 90 members. Many of these constituents are located in the Bastar division, which is affected by Naxal.
