Digital Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated on Friday that the PM National Relief Fund (PMNRF) would provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the families of each victim and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the wake of Cyclone Remal in West Bengal and the northeastern states.
Cyclone Remal is said to have caused at least 40 deaths and more than two lakh impacted people in the Northeast so far.
Taking to X, the PMO stated, "An ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased due to the natural disasters in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal in Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and West Bengal. The injured would be given Rs 50,000 each."
Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh expressed his gratitude to PM Modi following the announcement.
Manipur CM stated on FB, "I join the people of Manipur in expressing our gratitude to PM Narendra Modi Ji for his compassionate support in these challenging times. The ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured reflects your unwavering commitment to aiding those affected by Cyclone Remal.”
Meanwhile, states are currently dealing with the aftermath of natural disasters caused by Cyclone Remal. Home and agricultural land in West Bengal's coastal districts, namely Kakdwip, Namkhana, and Frazergunj, were severely damaged. Based on preliminary estimations, the impacted areas in the southern coastal areas were around 15,000 dwellings spread across 24 blocks and 79 municipal wards.
Additionally, the continuous rain caused extensive flooding in Imphal, necessitating rescue and evacuation operations.
