Digital Desk: The Delhi High Court on Thursday has notified former Team India cricket captain, MS Dhoni, about a defamation suit filed against him by his two former business partners, Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das.
To plea seeks a permanent injunction and damages against Dhoni, along with various social media platforms and houses that they have published and circulated defamatory statements against them.
Justice Prathiba M Singh directed the court registry about the case and presided over the hearing. He informed that Dhoni has not yet been served with the plea by the plaintiffs.
The judge said, "It is deemed appropriate to direct intimation to defendant no. 1 (Dhoni) of filing of the present suit. Let the registry issue an email to defendant no. 1 at the email address. The intimation be also given at the law firm representing him."
According to the suit, Dhoni alleged that the duo had duped Dhoni of nearly ₹15 crores by not honouring a contract to establish cricket academies.
The suit said, these allegations were widely reported in the media which had harmed the image of the plaintiffs.
The plaintiffs, Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das have approached the Delhi High Court to restrain Dhoni over the case.
The plaintiffs were requested to submit their court costs within a week, and the high court scheduled a follow-up hearing for January 29.
