Digital Desk: Delhi University (DU) has taken a proactive step to ensure the safety and privacy of its students during campus events by directing its colleges to install CCTV cameras outside women's toilets and changing rooms. This decision comes in the aftermath of an unfortunate incident at IIT-Delhi, where several women were secretly filmed during a fashion show.

According to DU officials, the administration has issued an advisory, urging colleges and departments to extend the CCTV camera arrangements to all gates of the institutes and hostels. The move aims to prevent any mishaps and enhance overall security on campus.

DU Proctor Rajni Abbi highlighted the collaborative effort with Delhi Police, stating, "After recommendations by the Delhi Police, we have made relevant additions to fest guidelines given the recent incident at IIT-Delhi. We have asked colleges to make CCTV arrangements in front of ladies' washrooms and dressing rooms during fests for the safety of students."

The incident at IIT-Delhi last October, where 10 students from DU's Bharti College were secretly filmed, led to the arrest of a 20-year-old contractual sweeper under Section 354C (voyeurism) of the Indian Penal Code.

To prevent similar occurrences, the revised guidelines include an assessment of boundary walls, installation of low concertina wires, and a centralized public announcement system at all gates.

The advisory also emphasizes advanced security liaison meetings before significant events where external participants are involved.

Additionally, it imposes limits on the number of students allowed during fests, recommends structural assessments for stages during concerts, mandates the use of door frame metallic detectors, and encourages proper lighting arrangements to eliminate dark patches.

To regulate event entry, the guidelines suggest using Google Forms, with submitted copies to be shared with the police and other concerned departments. Overall, these comprehensive measures underscore DU's commitment to safeguarding the well-being and privacy of its students during campus events.
