Digital Desk: In response to the scorching heatwave gripping the capital, the Delhi government has taken an important decision to safeguard the well-being of students. All private schools in Delhi have been mandated to declare summer vacation until June 30, with immediate effect.

This directive follows an earlier order from the Directorate of Education (DoE) instructing school authorities for summer vacation from May 11, 2024, to June 30, 2024, for the academic year 2024-25. Despite this, some government-aided and unaided recognized private schools continued to operate, prompting the government's intervention.

A circular issued by the Delhi government emphasized the importance of adhering to the summer vacation schedule, especially in light of the ongoing severe heatwave. The decision to extend the break to a total of 50 days underscores the government's commitment to prioritizing the health and safety of students.

Delhi is currently experiencing exceptionally high temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting a hotter-than-usual summer. On Monday, the minimum temperature soared to 29.2 degrees Celsius, three degrees above the seasonal average. The mercury is expected to rise further, reaching a peak of 45 degrees Celsius.

Given these extreme weather conditions, the extended summer vacation serves as a precautionary measure to shield students from the adverse effects of heat-related illnesses. By ensuring students stay indoors during the hottest part of the day, the government aims to mitigate the risks associated with prolonged exposure to high temperatures.
