Digital Desk: The Mumbai Crime Branch apprehended three individuals, including a couple, accused of bartering their own children in exchange for money to fuel their drug addiction. The incident unfolded in Andheri, where the authorities rescued a one-month-old baby girl while continuing the search for their two-year-old son.

The arrested individuals, identified as Shabbir and Sania Khan, along with Shakeel Makrani, were taken into custody. Additionally, the Crime Branch detained Usha Rathod, an alleged intermediary who purportedly profited from the transactions.

Mumbai Crime Branch spokesperson, Daya Nayak, stated, "A couple addicted to drugs sold their own two children to raise money in Andheri. As soon as the couple's family learned about the incident, the story came to light." The couple allegedly sold their son for sixty thousand rupees and their one-month-old daughter for fourteen thousand rupees.

Investigations revealed that Shabbir and Sania Khan had succumbed to drug addiction, leading them to engage with Rathod, who facilitated the sale. "They could not live without drugs, and at the same time, the accused woman, Rathod, came into contact with them," the Crime Branch reported.

The heinous act came to light when Rubina Khan, Shabbir's sister, discovered the distressing truth. Appalled by her brother's actions, she swiftly reported the incident to the D.N. Nagar police station, prompting a formal complaint against the couple.

Responding to Rubina's complaint, the D.N. Nagar police initiated an investigation, subsequently transferring the case to the Crime Branch for further scrutiny.

This appalling incident has sparked widespread condemnation and raised serious concerns about the vulnerabilities of individuals grappling with substance abuse. The authorities continue their efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of the children involved while pursuing legal action against the accused.
