Digital Desk: Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi strongly condemned what he termed as "insensitive and cruel remarks" made by BJP leaders during the budget discussion on the caste census.
Gogoi emphasized the importance of the caste census for various communities in India, especially those from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC). He criticized the BJP for mocking these communities' demands.
"During yesterday's discussion on the caste census, BJP leaders displayed an alarming lack of sensitivity," Gogoi remarked. "The demands from SC, ST, and OBC communities for a caste census were ridiculed, leading to their humiliation in Parliament. It is deeply troubling that later in the evening, the Prime Minister not only shared but also praised a speech that demeaned Dalits, OBCs, and Adivasis."
Gogoi stressed that the Congress party's protest is a defense of the rights of marginalized communities, highlighting the significance of the caste census. "We are advocating for their rights and fighting for the caste census, which is why we protested," he affirmed, reiterating the Congress party's dedication to ensuring respect and recognition for these communities within the legislative framework.
