Digital Desk: Gaurav Gogoi, Member of Parliament and Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, took a significant stand for Assam and Northeast India during the discussion of the Supplementary Demand for Grants in the Lok Sabha. As the first speaker from the Indian National Congress (INC), Gogoi articulated several pressing issues, shedding light on the challenges hindering the region's progress.

One of the key concerns Gogoi raised was the Teok-Sivasagar 4-Lane Highway, emphasizing the persistent obstacles faced by this crucial infrastructure project. Frequent changes in contractors have hampered development, adversely affecting the overall advancement of the region.

Drawing attention to NH-29 Compensation Irregularities, Gogoi highlighted discrepancies in the compensation and land acquisition process for the Parokhuwa to Lahorijan stretch. He underscored the unjust deprivation of compensation due to fabricated land acquisition records and the fraudulent claiming of compensation with false documentation. Gogoi called for a thorough investigation into these irregularities, pointing out the lacklustre approach of the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

The delayed establishment of a Sainik School in Golaghat also came under scrutiny. Despite receiving "In-Principle Approval" from the Ministry of Defence in March 2016, the prolonged delay raised concerns about the fulfilment of this important educational institution.

Advocating for the Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Assam tea, Gogoi stressed the need for legal protection to ensure that only tea produced in the region can bear the distinguished label of 'Assam tea.' He also voiced concerns about the import of Nepal Tea, which poses a threat to the brand of Assam tea.

Gogoi didn't overlook the welfare of ASHA Workers, emphasizing the necessity to address their concerns. He called for increased salaries and facilities, recognizing the pivotal role these workers play in healthcare.

Expressing optimism, Gogoi looked towards the Central Government to proactively address these vital issues affecting Assam and the Northeast. His comprehensive presentation in the Lok Sabha highlighted the urgency of resolving these challenges to foster development and well-being in the region.
