Goods train going towards Chennai derails near Chengalpattu
Due to the metal items toppling during the derailment, the incident caused damage to the railway lines.

Digital Desk: Rail services in Tamil Nadu were disrupted after at least eight coaches of a goods train from Villupuram to Tondairpetn derailed close to Chengalpattu.

Iron ore, metal sheets, and iron rods were all loaded into the 38-coach train. The voyage began at Chengalpattu and involved the derailing of eight of the 38 carriages.

Due to the metal items toppling during the derailment, the incident caused damage to the railway lines. In order to minimise delays for other rail services, quick reaction teams from Chengalpattu and Villupuram were stationed at the location.

There will be inquiries conducted to determine what caused the disaster.

It may be mentioned that four empty coaches from an Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) derailed earlier in October in the Chennai suburb of Avadi. No casualties were immediately reported.

The train was headed to Beach station when it left Ananur shed and arrived in Avadi. That is when the event happened.

According to sources, the train derailed close to Hindu College station instead of stopping at Avadi station.
