'Hindi speakers from UP & Bihar clean toilets in Tamil Nadu': DMK MP sparks row

Digital Desk: In a recent controversy, DMK MP Dayanidhi Maran's remarks about Hindi speakers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar working in Tamil Nadu have ignited a heated debate on social media. Maran's assertion that those who learn English end up in IT jobs, while Hindi speakers supposedly engage in menial work, has drawn criticism from BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla.

Poonawalla accused leaders of the INDIA bloc, particularly from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, of not condemning Maran's remarks and alleged an attempt to divide the country along the lines of caste, language, and religion.

The BJP leader expressed disappointment at the silence of leaders like Nitish Kumar, Tejashwi Yadav, Lalu Yadav, Rahul Gandhi, and Akhilesh Yadav, urging them to take a stand against such divisive rhetoric.

BJP MP Ravi Shankar Prasad defended the people of Bihar, attributing their migration to Tamil Nadu to the economic conditions in their home state under Nitish Kumar's leadership.

The political blame game intensified as Poonawalla criticized the INDIA bloc's "Divide and Rule" strategy and questioned the inaction against DMK MP DNV Senthilkumar, who previously made controversial remarks targeting the Hindi heartland states.

Poonawalla also brought up past incidents involving Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, emphasizing a pattern of divisive rhetoric.

He mentioned Rahul Gandhi's reference to a "different type of politics" in Uttar Pradesh and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's defence of Charanjit Singh Channi's remarks against people from UP, Bihar, and Delhi.

The BJP spokesperson highlighted instances from Tamil Nadu and Telangana, citing Udhayanidhi Stalin's controversial remarks about Sanatana Dharma and Revanth Reddy's comment on K Chandrashekar Rao's Bihar origins. Poonawalla argued that these incidents collectively reflect an agenda within the INDIA bloc to insult Sanatana Dharma and divide the nation.

This controversy sheds light on the broader issue of regionalism and divisive politics, with both major political blocs engaging in accusations and counter-accusations. The discourse has gone beyond Dayanidhi Maran's comments, evolving into a narrative of North-South divide allegations. The silence of key leaders from the INDIA bloc adds fuel to the fire, raising questions about the political will to address such sensitive issues.

Amid these allegations and counter-allegations, it becomes imperative for political leaders to prioritize national unity and discourage divisive rhetoric.

A constructive dialogue on economic disparities and regional development is necessary to address the root causes of migration and promote a more inclusive and united India. As the political climate continues to heat up, the responsibility lies on leaders across party lines to foster a sense of unity and understanding among the diverse population of the country.
