Digital Desk: Since last evening, the national capital has been experiencing relentless rain. The meteorological department predicts more rain on Thursday. Reports of waterlogging are widespread, and the Opposition has shared images showing water leakage from the new Parliament Building. On Wednesday, significant portions of the city were submerged, leading to severe traffic congestion and leaving many people stranded as roads turned into rivers.
The Salwan station in East Delhi's Mayur Vihar area recorded 147.5 mm of rainfall from 8:30 am on Wednesday to 7:15 am on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The Najafgarh station saw 113 mm of rainfall, while the Lodhi Road, Delhi University, and Safdarjung observatories recorded 107.5 mm, 104.5 mm, and 105.6 mm of rainfall, respectively.
Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav tweeted a video showing water leakage from the new Parliament Building, saying, "The old parliament was better than this new parliament, where even the old MPs could come and meet. Congress' Manickam Tagore.B also tweeted a video of the water leakage, stating, "Paper leakage outside, water leakage inside. The recent water leakage in the Parliament lobby used by the President highlights urgent weather resilience issues in the new building, just a year after completion. Moving Adjournment motion on this issue in Loksabha."
He also filed a notice for an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to propose the formation of a specialized committee, including MPs from all parties, to thoroughly inspect the Parliament building following the water leaks.
