Digital Desk: After nearly two months of strained relations, India has reinstated its e-visa services for Canadian nationals, signaling a potential thaw in diplomatic tensions. The suspension was initiated following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's insinuation of an alleged Indian connection to the killing of a Canada-based Khalistan separatist.

In recent weeks, India has gradually restored visa services for various categories, including entry visa, business visa, medical visa, and conference visa. The resumption of e-visas is viewed as a significant step toward de-escalation by New Delhi, seeking to ease the standoff prompted by the diplomatic row.

This move comes in the wake of India's call for Ottawa to reduce its diplomatic presence in the country. Last month, Canada withdrew 41 diplomats from India and limited its visa and consular services in several Indian cities, consolidating operations solely at the Canadian High Commission in Delhi. The reinitiation of e-visa services may mark a positive turn in the strained India-Canada relations.
