JD(U) leader KC Tyagi quits as party spokesperson, cites personal reason
Rajiv Ranjan Prasad will succeed Tyagi as the party's new national spokesperson. The JD(U) is currently in power in Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

Digital Desk: Senior Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi on Sunday stepped down as the party's national spokesperson, citing "personal reasons" in his resignation letter to the party leadership. However, sources suggest his departure was influenced by the leadership's dissatisfaction with his recent comments on various issues.

Rajiv Ranjan Prasad will succeed Tyagi as the party's new national spokesperson. The JD(U) is currently in power in Bihar under Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

According to sources, Tyagi's resignation was prompted by the party's disapproval of his statements, including his recent remarks on the Israel-Palestine conflict and the controversy over lateral entry into government positions. Tyagi had called for an end to arms supplies to Israel and expressed support for peace and a ceasefire in Gaza.

Party sources also claimed that Tyagi made these statements without consulting party leaders and that his comments had reportedly caused friction within the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Tyagi, 73, has been a key ally of Nitish Kumar throughout his political career and was a prominent face of the party. He served as a Rajya Sabha MP from Bihar from 2013 to 2016 and as a Lok Sabha member from Hapur constituency from 1989 to 1991.

Tyagi recently signed a statement by current and former MPs condemning Israel's actions, asserting that "India cannot be complicit in this genocide." He also commented on the Supreme Court's decision regarding SC/ST reservations and the UPSC's decision to appoint candidates through lateral recruitment, which he voiced without prior party consultation.

JD(U) sources noted that Tyagi often expressed his personal views as if they were the party's stance. With senior leaders such as Union Minister Lalan Singh and Parliamentary Party Leader Sanjay Jha in Delhi, there is a sentiment within the party that these leaders should handle relations with the BJP without frequent public interjections from Tyagi, according to news agency PTI.
