Digital Desk: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju will represent India at Maldivian President-elect Mohamed Muizzu's swearing ceremony.
The Union Earth Sciences Minister will travel to the Maldives for a two-day official visit beginning November 16 at the invitation of President-elect Mohamed Muizzu.
Rijiju will represent India at the Presidency's inauguration event. The Ministry of External Affairs said this in an official release.
The Maldives occupies a unique place in the Prime Minister's vision of "SAGAR" (Security and Growth for All in the Region) and the "Neighbourhood First Policy."
The island country is also India's main maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean region.
It is to be noted that, Muizzu overthrew incumbent President Ibrahim Solih in the presidential runoff in September.
According to the MEA, India's high level of Ministerial representation at the inaugural ceremony demonstrates India's commitment to further strengthening bilateral ties.
In accordance with the MEA, India has received an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the inauguration of Maldives President-elect Mohamed Muizzu.
