Digital Desk: The ongoing investigation into the horrific rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has unveiled shocking details about the accused, Sanjay Roy. According to police sources, Roy consumed alcohol before committing the crime, raising further concerns about his mental state.

Sources revealed that on the night of the crime, Roy went behind the hospital at around 11 pm to consume alcohol. This was reportedly a routine for Roy, who allegedly watched violent pornographic videos while drinking. Police have since discovered that Roy’s mobile phone contained numerous such videos, almost filling its storage. This has led investigators to believe that Roy may be mentally ill or a pervert, given the disturbing nature of the content he consumed.

The tragic incident came to light when the lifeless body of the 31-year-old doctor was discovered in the seminar room of the Department of Chest Medicine on Friday morning. The postmortem report revealed that the victim had suffered severe injuries, including bleeding from her private parts, as well as injuries to her belly, left leg, neck, right hand, ring finger, and lips.

The Department of Chest Medicine, where the crime occurred, has two entry points. On the night of the incident, one of these entrances was closed, leaving only the back door open. CCTV footage from the hospital showed five to six individuals entering the department through this back entrance around 4 am. However, police confirmed that these individuals were attending to relatives admitted to the hospital and had legitimate reasons for being there.

However, Roy had no valid reason to be in the department that night. Investigators have described him as having a "perverted mind", with a preference for extreme pornography. After committing the heinous crime, Roy reportedly attempted to destroy evidence. Police found indications that he tried to wash away bloodstains from the crime scene, and CCTV footage captured him leaving the seminar room around 4:45 am.

Following the crime, Roy went to the barracks of the 4th Battalion, where he was later arrested while still intoxicated. Roy has been charged under sections 64 (rape) and 103 (murder) of the BNS and has been remanded to police custody until August 23.
