Digital Desk: Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Monday that five new districts will be created in Ladakh, marking a significant step towards enhancing governance and development in the region. The Ministry of Home Affairs decided to establish the new districts, which will be Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang.

Shah shared the news in a post on X (formerly Twitter), stating that the new districts will help deliver government benefits more efficiently to the people of Ladakh. "In pursuit of PM Narendra Modi Ji’s vision to build a developed and prosperous Ladakh, the MHA has decided to create five new districts in the union territory. The new districts will take the benefits meant for the people to their doorsteps by bolstering governance in every nook and cranny," he wrote.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also welcomed the move, calling it a step towards better governance and prosperity in Ladakh. "Zanskar, Drass, Sham, Nubra, and Changthang will now receive more focused attention, bringing services and opportunities even closer to the people," Modi said in a congratulatory message to the region’s residents.

Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal praised the decision, noting that it would pave the way for the overall development of Ladakh. The addition of these new districts will increase Ladakh's total number of districts from two to seven, significantly enhancing administrative reach in the region.
