Digital Desk: As the vote counting for the 2024 general elections continues, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is currently leading in two prominent Lok Sabha constituencies: Wayanad in Kerala and Raebareli in Uttar Pradesh. According to early leads from the Election Commission, Gandhi holds a significant edge in both areas.

In Wayanad, Kerala, Gandhi is ahead by a margin of 8,718 votes. His main rivals in this constituency include BJP leader K Surendran and CPI's Annie Raja. This result comes after the polling held on April 26, during the second phase of the elections, which included five other constituencies in the state. Wayanad has historically shown strong support for Gandhi, who won the seat in 2019 with a record margin of over 4.31 lakh votes, achieving 64.7% of the vote share against LDF candidate PP Suneer.

Annie Raja, who is contesting from Wayanad, is a notable figure as the wife of CPI general secretary D Raja and the general secretary of the National Federation of Indian Women. Her candidacy added a significant dynamic to the race in Wayanad.

In Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, Gandhi leads with a margin of 2,126 votes. His primary opponent here is Thakur Prasad Yadav from the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). Raebareli has long been a stronghold for the Congress, adding weight to Gandhi's current lead in this constituency.

Additionally, the counting for the State Legislative Assemblies in Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, as well as by-polls in 25 Assembly constituencies, has commenced. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is vying for a third consecutive term, while the opposition INDIA bloc seeks to unseat the ruling party. Despite exit polls largely predicting Prime Minister Narendra Modi's re-election, the Congress party and its allies remain optimistic about forming the next government.

In an early result, the BJP secured a seat in the Surat Lok Sabha. The extensive Lok Sabha elections spanned 543 seats across seven phases, reflecting the vast democratic exercise involving 642 million voters over six weeks, culminating in a tightly secured counting process starting with postal ballots.
