Maratha quota stir intensifies; Mumbai-Bengaluru highway blocked, trains halted
For two hours on Tuesday afternoon, a group of protestors blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, creating a severe traffic jam.

Digital Desk: Maharashtra Maratha community members continued their protests around the state on Tuesday in support of their demand for Maratha reservations in government jobs and education under the OBC category.

For two hours on Tuesday afternoon, a group of protestors blocked the Mumbai-Bengaluru Highway, creating a severe traffic jam. The jam is persistent on both sides, and the mob is not ready to back down.

In Solapur, a different group of Maratha Kranti Morcha workers blocked the train tracks. Images from the protests showed protesters seeking reservations for the Maratha group while holding saffron flags and burning tires on the railway tracks.

Two demonstrators, identified as Ram Jadhav and Nishant Salve, were apprehended in this case by railway officials and Solapur City Police. Despite the protests continuing, the authorities were able to remove the protesters from the railway tracks.

According to authorities on Tuesday, during a protest, some individuals in the Jalna district of Maharashtra set fire to a panchayat samiti office.

On Monday night, supporters rushed to the panchayat samiti office in Ghansawangi, district, chanting "Ek Maratha Lakh Maratha" and destructively set the building on fire.

According to a Ghansawangi police station official, certain significant papers and furnishings in two of the office's rooms were damaged.

In a different incident that occurred in Jalna, some young Maratha people attempted on Monday afternoon to stop trains at a railway gate in Shelgaon village, Badnapur tehsil. In an attempt to disrupt train operations, the demonstrators squatted on the railway tracks.

Since October 25, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange has been holding an indefinite fast in support of the demand for reservations at Antarwali Sarati village in the Jalna district.

He said on Tuesday that an "incomplete reservation" will not be accepted by the Maratha community and that the Maharashtra administration has to call a special session of the state legislature to discuss the matter.

In order to disperse the Maratha agitators, police used tear gas shells outside the home of Amarsingh Pandit, the leader of the NCP (Ajit Pawar group).

Amidst the chaos around the state, Uddhav Thackeray, the chief of Shiv Sena (UBT), requested on Tuesday that the Centre convene a special session of Parliament to address the Maratha reservation issue.
