Marriage certificate not required for adoption: Allahabad High Court
Digital Desk: According to the Allahabad High Court, a marriage certificate is not necessary for adopting a kid. According to the Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act, 1956, even a single parent can adopt a kid. So the court remarked while hearing a writ case brought by Rina Kinnar, a transgender woman and her partner, on February 9.

According to the petition, Rina was born in 1983, and they married on December 16, 2000, at Mahabeer Mandir in Ardali Bazar, Varanasi.

They then intended to adopt a kid, but they were advised to need a marriage certificate under the Hindu Marriage Act, so they filed an online application with the Sub-Registrar, Hindu Marriage, District Varanasi in December 2021.

However, because petitioner No. 1 was transgender, their marriage could not be recorded. As a result, they filed a petition with the High Court, requesting that the Sub-Registrar register their marriage so that they might adopt a child.
