Similar instances of cruelty against animals have been reported across the country. In a recent such incident, at least 30 monkeys were found killed at a village in Hassan district in July this year. As many as 20 other monkeys were found to be injured.

The incident was reported from the Chowdanahalli village of Belur taluk. Preliminary investigations had suggested that the monkeys were poisoned and beaten up.

The miscreants had stuffed the monkeys in gunny bags and thrown them by the roadside near Chowdenahalli.

In another incident in Telangana in November last year, as many as 50 monkeys were allegedly poisoned to death in Mahabubabad district. The carcasses of the same were found on a hillock near Sanigapuram village, stuffed inside the gunny bags. A forest department official finding the carcasses informed others and began an investigation into the incident.
